EURO-BOZON Staticstics

This section of the Red Flag InfoHub focuses on the visual presentation of key information. Figures and quantities do not always reveal their significance at first glance: It is only through classification, relation and comparison that the actual meaning behind the data becomes apparent. The visualizations make it possible to adopt different perspectives - both with regard to the extent of fraud and scam activities as well as the reaction density of international supervisory and control authorities that publish consumer warnings. The aim is to translate abstract data into comprehensible correlations and make developments recognizable.
As the majority of the providers included in the reports use the internet as their primary tool for fraudulent activities, this medium acts as a significant reach amplifier. The lack of physical and geographical borders means that fraud schemes and corresponding warnings regularly have cross-border relevance. Consumer warnings should therefore not be viewed in isolation in a national context, but should be classified as internationally effective signals regardless of the publishing reference source.

The data on which the visualizations are based comes from the European Warning Database of Foreign Supervisory Authorities, EURO-BOZON. The Fraud & Alert Tracker as well as further information and research options can be found here.

10-Years
The graph shows the historical development of warning notices published per year.
The chart opens up several levels of analysis and interpretation, but does not allow any statement to be made about the actual total volume of fraudulent online activities. The number of unreported cases is estimated to be high - particularly in view of the fact that a significant proportion of interaction takes place via messenger services and therefore takes place outside of directly visible or measurable structures. Supported by new technical possibilities and targeted concealment tactics, it is becoming increasingly difficult for consumers to reliably identify the true intentions of supposed service providers.
