The allocation is made by the index providers MSCI and S&P Dow Jones on the basis of a company's main business segment. The GICS "Materials" sector comprises companies that are active in the production, processing or refinement of raw materials. This includes industries such as chemicals, building materials, paper & forest products and the entire metallurgical and mining industry.
